CED in the History of Media Technology |
The Apple Lisa first appeared in January 1983 and initially had two 5.25" 871K floppy disk drives. The system was quite innovative, featuring a graphical user interface and utilizing a mouse as an input device, The system had a 5MB external hard drive called the ProFile and a massive 1MB of RAM (64K was a lot at this time), both of which contributed to its whopping $9995 retail price. The high price and Apple's proprietary hold over software development resulted in poor sales. Fortunately the company had a lower cost GUI computer under development called the Macintosh.
