In his hands the narrator holds what looks like a sponge, but is actually a twelve mile length of copper filament finer than the finest silk.
Is this 'filament' the copper that was carved off of the copper surface by the lathe?
- anonymous
Yes, the lathe cuts an extremely fine copper filament twelve miles in length as it forms the grooves in the surface of the master.
